14. Software engineering evaluation Company S
This project we have jointly obtained with Cardinal Consulting International, a
US based company from Company S in 2007.
The findings were;
How competitors can manage product development
Find US or European Companies how they manage to launch such new product at early stage.
Look at inside of Company S and provide them with some suggestions
It was a very interesting finding that a most of US companies have a software driven development whereas a chief software architect of software engineering manager will provide a model as to how it should use in terms of software for a product and discuss deeply on any other improvement could be made before they conclude development stage.
This was explained to the management of Company S which they were very interested in knowing more.
Our findings were;
The most of these companies have chief software engineer
The development project leads by this software engineering manager.
The hardware development and design will take place secondary
Company S current development is;
Any project lead by hardware engineering manager
Software development is much more secondary priority
The project leader does not understand on software engineering.
So, the recommendations to the Company S are;
Any head of business group should be software engineering person or have understanding on software engineering.
This may end up changing almost all of the current head of business unit.
The real top management should also understand software engineering and ICT technologies trends.
The increase of status of software engineers within Company S.
Finally, we strongly recommended them to carryout deeper survey within the Company S so that we may identify those people who have the software engineering matters and possible future head of business unit.
This final recommendation has never progressed.
We are not sure why Company S cannot take such decision immediately since they were in the middle of fire fighting and a chaos of managing electronics business.
